Shortly after Valentine’s Day one year, I found this metal “Love” sign in the clearance section at a local store. It was marked down to a really reasonable price, but it did have a little damage on it. Some of the letters were smudged or scratched.
Let me show you how I went from:

Break out the Spray Paint-
My friend, Rick, had a number of sayings that he liked to use. One of his favorites was “Spray paint is your friend”! He was so right!
Confident that the damage wasn’t anything a little spray paint and a bit of time couldn’t fix, I grabbed the painter’s tape and wrapped the sign so that only the letters were showing. I used metallic silver spray paint.
I love Frog Tape painter’s tape! I like to keep a lot of it on hand for various projects!
After the Painter’s Tape Was removed-
After I removed all the painter’s tape, I still wasn’t happy with how the letters looked. The scratches were gone but the letters lacked definition.
Touching up-
I used gold spray paint on a piece of paper towel to add some additional aging to the background.
This is one of my favorite brands of metallic gold paint!
I used a thin black marker to carefully outline the letters. This added some depth to the letters.
The Finished Sign –
Since the sign is made out of metal, it could work outside as well as inside. I added it to this Spring display on the buffet. I love how the metallic sheen of the Love sign works with the metal words and accent pieces of the Fresh Cut flower sign. It also helps pull out the gray in the candlesticks. I can see a lot of ways to use this sign to decorate my home.
