Let’s Add Valentine Accents to Winter Decor

Curious about how to add Valentine accents to your winter decor? Here are a few easy ideas to help you get started!

A Simple Valentine’s Day Centerpiece

By sharing a few ideas about how to add Valentine accents to Winter decor, I hope to show you ways to help you save time, money and storage space.  Transitioning from Christmas to Winter & Valentine’s Day is as easy as adding a few hearts or touches of Valentine colors such as red or pink.

Let’s Get Started

If you have been following me for a bit, you already know that I often keep an oval dough bowl on my gathering room coffee table.  I love to decorate it for the different seasons.  During the Christmas holidays, I moved it into our living room.

On this blog, I may sometimes use affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you purchase via the link. The price will be the same whether you use the affiliate link or go directly to the vendor’s website using a non-affiliate link.  By using my affiliate links to shop, it helps me to be able to continue bringing you fresh new ideas and projects!  Thank you!

I believe this oval dough bowl is a reproduction but there are still many antique ones available.  Dough bowls used to be used when making bread.  The bowl was a great place for the bread to rise as the wood helped retain the heat which in turn helped the dough rise.  They are also sometimes referred to as trenchers. My oval one is 20 inches long.

The Elements

The focal point of the dough bowl display for both Christmas (Winter) and Valentine’s Day is a resin snowman named Pudge.  Pudge loves his new life in Punta Gorda,  FL!  He says he doesn’t miss the snow at all!

Illinois Farmhouse in Winter

He is certain that if he still lived in the Illinois farmhouse, his front yard would look like this at least once during the winter!

back to the decorating…

Just like Pudge with his red scarf and hat, this small heart shaped wooden bowl will work perfectly in the display.  What says Valentine’s Day better than hearts?

Accenting the wooden bowl is a bow made out of Diamond Wire by Oasis. I simply cut off a piece of wire and formed it into a bow.  After the bow was finished, I just tucked it into the display.

To complete the transition to Valentine’s Day, all I did was add a little Valentine themed book to the end of the display!  I also added a pair of red hearts in a mercury glass vase.

Other Ways to Add Valentine Flair to Your Decor

Ribbon

heart filled with ribbon and twine

I had this Valentine ribbon left over from a different project.  I used it to make a banner to accent an electric candle display.  I used little strips of Velcro to hold the printed ribbon to the solid ribbon.

I also used that same printed burlap ribbon to make bows for the trio of spindles.

Let’s add some Pink!

Winter Wonderland Christmas sign

The entryway is one of my most challenging areas to decorate.  It is narrow and very hard to photograph.  The picture about is how I had the marble topped table decorated for the holidays one year.

For Valentine’s Day, I made a few simple changes. I added the Peace Love Joy sign, a heart plate, a piece of fabric and a Valentine’s Day gift bag.  The gold hurricane was raised up by using a piece of ironstone.  The rustic toolbox added height as well as texture to the display. More about this display can be found here: Peace- Love -Joy

One of my favorite ways to display that box is pictured below:

After Valentine’s Day, I used the Peace Love Joy sign in a spring garden style display.

Love the “tulips” in the sugar mold! I have one of those, I think I’ll have to try something similar for Valentine’s Day!
