Create autumnal ambiance in your home by filling a wooden bowl with fall leaves, pinecones, tallow berries, and more!
Fall is almost here! I think it is a such a beautiful season, don’t you? I love to bring the colors of Autumn into our home.
One of the ways I bring the colors of Autumn into our home is by filling a dough bowl with fall colored leaves, berries and pine cones. Let me show you how I created this decorative dough bowl.

Decorative Dough Bowl For Autumn
Adding a seasonal touch like this dough bowl design is a quick & easy way to enhance your decor. Designing a dough bowl is a perfect way to create a festive atmosphere at home during the fall season. You can fill the bowl with any type of decorative item you choose, such as dried leaves, pine cones, acorns, and so much more. I used a few sprigs of fall leaves, two pine sprigs with tallow berries, a few raffia spheres and three creamy white roses.
Let’s Get Started
I have several dough bowls in my collection. This oval one normally sits on the coffee table in the gathering room. I decided to change things up a bit and use it on the entryway table. The oak framed mirror behind it has quite a cute story. You can read all about here if you like! The Story Behind The Mirror
After wiping out the bowl and cleaning the mirror, I gathered up the elements for the design. The leaves were part of a garland that I used last year. At Christmas, I cut a few sprigs off the garland and sprayed them with 24 Karat Gold Spray paint. Pictured below is what the leaves looked like before their makeover. The spray paint just gives them a little extra glow.
Here is what the leaves look like now.
Next I added three rattan spheres. I used the medium sized ones. In floral design, we often work in odd numbers of items. Feel free to add some smaller spheres like the ones pictured below if you desire.
I purchased a bag of assorted spheres so that I could use them in a number of design projects.
After I added the leaves and the spheres, I added two pine sprigs accented with tallow berries and pine cones.
If you want, you can stop here. It looks pretty like this. I wanted to add a few creamy white roses. I had this garland that was 6 ft long. I cut it in half and then cut the 3 foot section into smaller sections. I used three of the sections and placed them throughout the dough bowl.
This is how it looks from the front.

If you are looking for a dough bowl, I recommend getting one that is at least 20 to 22 inches long if it is rectangle or oval. If it is round, I think is needs to be at least 10 inches across. The majority of my dough bowls are reproductions but there are still some antique ones available. A variety of reproduction ones are available on Amazon. A word of caution: be sure to check the dimensions of the bowls before ordering. I had a friend order one in a hurry and it turned out to be smaller than her hand!
