We can all use a little luck of the Irish, don’t you agree? Won’t you join me while I style a St Patrick’s Day vignette!
Let’s Style the Sideboard for St Patrick’s Day
The first step in styling a St Patrick’s Day vignette is to prepare your spot. I am going to use this table. Sometimes, I refer to it as a sideboard, but it really is a drop leaf table!
First I removed all of the things that were on the sideboard and covered it with a linen tablecloth. The tablecloth has a design on it that is two shades of green.

By using my affiliate links to shop, it helps me to be able to continue bringing you fresh new ideas and projects! Thank you!
The next step is to gather all the elements that you think you might want to use in your vignette. Since I am styling an area for St Patrick’s Day, I picked items that either had a St Patrick’s Day motif or were green or cream. You might have more things in your “pile” than you end up using but that is ok!
Now you are ready to start styling!
Re-using the Spindles
If you have been following me for a while, you probably aren’t surprised to see the spindles making an appearance! These spindles are quite versatile. Just by changing a few things, you can quickly have a “new” seasonal decoration.
I just happened to have three ceramic shamrocks on wooden picks left over from my days in the flower shop.
The picks were a little long, so I cut them down. I then stuck them in the top of the spindles and voila! St Patrick’s Day Spindles!
I used these same spindles last year for St Patrick’s Day. Nestled at the base of the spindles is ball of shamrocks! Well, ok, it is actually a green hydrangea head, but it does sort of look like shamrocks don’t you think?
A St Patrick’s Day dough bowl
Another Kim Style decor staple is the dough bowl. I love decorating with dough bowls! Round, square, oval, oblong…. whatever shape I can find, I love them all!
For this vignette, I decided to use a round dough bowl that wasn’t quite as deep as my other round dough bowl. This one is 15 inch in diameter and about 3 inches deep.
In order to put this dough bowl display together, I am going to use the beaded ribbon I used in this Christmas display. It is such a pretty color and adds a bit of shimmer to the display.
I am also going to use the “gold” Leprechaun coins. What is St Patrick’s Day without a pot of gold? The upside down lid with the scalloped edge is going to become the topper for the pedestal the leprechaun is standing on. It will make more sense in a minute when you see it!
To make the pedestal the leprechaun is standing on, I took the left over wooden insert from a spool of Oasis muslin ribbon and placed it in the center of the bowl. Then I topped it off with that cute polka dotted scalloped edge lid, which I also kept from a candle. Keeping things like that are one of the reasons my husband thinks I am a hoarder. I am not a hoarder, I am a creator and I like to have a lot of options!
The finished dough bowl! I placed the wooden spool in a cream and green berry ring that I have had for ages. To finish off the display, I used a little leprechaun hat pin I found when going through my Mom’s things. Actually, the leprechaun is actually an Irish Santa that was part of my Mom’s Santa collection. I kept it since it was so cute!
The St Patrick’s Day Sign
I found this cute sign at the Dollar Store one year. I thought it would be cute in our entryway, hanging on the mirror. The mirror has quite a story behind it. You can read all about it here:
This year, I decided to use the sign as a backdrop to this vignette. I am still trying to decide how to decorate the entryway for St Patrick’s Day!
The sign is primarily shades of green and cream, so it was perfect for the St Patrick’s Day vignette!
The Reproduction French Bottle Dryer
I really really really want an actual French bottle dryer or rack but they are so expensive. I found this mug holder on Amazon and decided to pretend it is a mini reproduction French bottle dryer! A lot of being creative comes from pretending something is something other than what it is!
To tie the French bottle dryer into the St Patrick’s day display, I hung two St Patrick’s Day themed mugs on it. Both of them were mugs I found in my Mom’s things! If you have been following me for a bit, you aren’t surprised. The woman collected practically everything! If you are curious about the process of downsizing and dealing with my parents’ estate, the journey starts here Thyme to Let Go ; How I Downsized the Family Homestead Part 1 and ends here: Thyme to Let Go ; How I Downsized My Family Homestead Part 7
The cream mug with the clover design was a gift from one of my parents’ foreign students that they hosted over the years. The back of the mug has the Jones Family Crest on it. I am not sure that it is really my family’s crest but it is cute!
