A Few Creative Barnwood Projects!

Wondering what you can do with barnwood? Let me share several creative projects that were made from barnwood from my family’s farm!

pile of old barnwood

Looking for some creative ways to use old barnwood?  The pile of barnwood pictured above is part of what my cousin’s granddaughter , Ali, purchased from me last summer. I shared all the details of how they spent their Father’s Day here:   Scroll down through the post to see what she made with some of the wood!

corn crib at the Farm

Pictured above is one of the two corn cribs that were located on my family’s homestead when my Grandfather purchased the property in 1942.  This one is still standing.  My Mother had its twin torn down after she and my Dad moved to the modular house at the back of the property.  The wood from the crib was stored in the barn for a number of years.

The Creative Results!

Barnwood Wall Hanging

Ali sent me these pictures over the weekend!  I asked if she had made the letter B.  She said she actually had gotten it at Hobby Lobby.  She is so talented thought I bet she could have made it herself!!

Barnwood Wall art

Wouldn’t this be great for your patio, deck or outdoor kitchen?  I may have to “borrow” this idea when our outdoor kitchen is finished!  Mine might say “Makin’ Pizza” instead of Grill and Chill!

Barnwood wall hanging with Sentimental words

Ali’s children presented their great grandma (my cousin) with a fabulous wall hanging made from a piece of the barnwood for Christmas this year!  What a wonderful gift!

Barnwood siding

Doesn’t the barnwood look great on the wall?  While I was in Illinois last Fall, I was able to see this in person.  I love how they used the different colors of the wood to add interest.

I found (ok the helpers found) several pieces of gingerbread when we were cleaning out the barn last summer.  This was the smallest of the pieces.  Ali cleaned it up and made it into a headboard.  It looks fantastic, don’t you think?

My Dad, His Great Great Niece and His Triple Great Niece!

My Dad is pictured above with Ali, his Great Great niece and her daughter at a family gathering a little over 10 years ago.  My Dad always liked pretty girls!  He would be pleased to know that part of the crib is now in Alison’s home.

Downsizing & ultimately cleaning out the family farm has been a long process.  One of the upsides to the process is that I have gotten to know and spend time with my cousin and her family.   I cherish the memories that we have made and am so glad I have gotten to know my Dad’s side of the family better!

Ali and her Dad made this table for Ali’s Mom’s birthday from some of the remaining wood.  Isn’t it absolutely gorgeous?

They also made some projects for the yard.  You can see them here: Patriotic Outdoor Decor made From Finds from the Barn!

Similar to the Letter B

This one is unfinished so you could paint it any color you wanted and then add a stencil to make a design like the leaves on the B

Or here’s one with lights!

What a wonderful piece of history. I would have to tag everything to make sure I remembered the history! Thank you for sharing, friend.

Thank you , Leslie! My Mom used to keep a list of all the things in her house that had family/sentimental history. She would tag things with a red dot and number them. Do you think I could find the list when I was going thru things getting ready to decide what to keep and what to pass on? No I could not! I still haven’t found the list! I probably ended up getting rid of something really special! Thanks for reading!!!!
